This picture was a massive learning experience. I think I tried about ten different new ways of shading, adding highlights, inking, etc. I'm really quite pleased with the overall look, though at some points I had my doubts ^_^;; It sorta was looking as if I was trying to smash two styles together, but then it all seemed to mesh at the very end....
This is Gallen Marcuss by the way. Ocelot/Dace Fish combo, for the Island of Doctor Moreau art contest on Gaia. Credits go out to the shop owners and the character's creator.
Man, the first thing I thought when I saw this, was, MAN, the colors! Oh my god, they're so vivid, andandand...8D That's something I really like by default. The face is adorable (It's snacktime!), and....XDD The angle's pulled off really well. It looks like it was really hard to draw. *can't even try to imagine drawing this type of pose/angle at the moment, uwah* He really does look like he's floating
And whoooa. D: All the underwater texture boggles my mind. D: It looks great! Especially on the arms, and the tail, and the fish, it almost looks real in some spots. *is really, really impressed* How did you do that? ;3;
Thanks for the lovely comment and the fav Ghost :3
The pose actually wasn't too hard for me for some reason. It only took about two sketches for me to be satisfied.... I wish I could say the same about my purely animal or purely human drawings XD For some reason anthros I always find easier. Weird....
As for the water, the basic concept is to create some sort of texture, then run a chrome filter over it. This isn't the tutorial I learned by, but its basically the same concept: [link] Then you just experiment with color, types of layers, sizes, transparency, stretch/skewing it, etc.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
